Australia skipper Steve Smith fell after a fluent 58 as the tourists reached 111 for two at tea in reply to Bangladesh’s first innings total of 305 in the second and final test today.
Warner, who shared a 93-run stand with Smith, was batting on 42 with the onus on him to lead Australia’s strong reply in a contest where first innings total might make all the difference.
Peter Handscomb was batting on five at the other end with Australia, who were beaten inside four days in Dhaka, still trailing by 194 runs.
Earlier, Nathan Lyon claimed 7-94, his second best figure, as Bangladesh added 52 runs to their overnight score of 253-6 before collapsing.
The off-spinner, who had claimed five wickets on Monday, struck with his second delivery of the day dismissing Mushfiqur for 68.
Mushfiqur had planted his front foot forward to a ball which took the inside edge and knocked off the bail.
Ashton Agar dismissed the other overnight batsman Nasir Hossain for 45 with Matthew Wade, whose place in the playing XI was in doubt going into the test, taking a fine catch.
Warner then ran out Mehidy Hasan before Lyon dismissed Taijul Islam to claim his seventh wicket.
Mushfiqur took a spectacular diving catch to dismiss Matt Renshaw for four but Warner and Smith batted sensibly to reduce the gap.
Warner defended resolutely, letting Smith to dominate their partnership, but Taijul struck with his very first delivery to end the blossoming partnership.
Smith, who hit eight fours in his knock, did not read the arm ball from the left-arm spinner which slipped through the big bat-pad gap to peg back his stump.
