Srinagar: Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting the valley with the rest of the country, was disrupted for about half-an-hour following protest against thrashing of a driver of a passenger vehicle allegedly by Army in south Kashmir district of Pulwama this afternoon.
Official sources said soldiers allegedly thrashed a local cab driver after he didn’t make way for two Army vehicles at Drangbal, Pampore, about 12 km from here on the national highway.
However, people immediately assembled on the highway and staged a protest against the Army personnel which resulted in disruption of traffic.
In order to control the situation, police took both the Army and passenger vehicles to Pampore Police station to investigate the incident. Later, traffic was restored on the highway. However, there was massive traffic jam as hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of Pampore.
They said no case was registered and the matter was resolved amicably.
