Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Ghulam Ahmed Mir is likely to be re-elected as party head during the elections scheduled in October. “Mr Mir has completed more than two-and-half year term and as per party norms and election process has to take place in September or October ending,” party sources here told UNI. They said that generally the party head can continue for a period of five years but it is up to the high command to take a decision on appointing the new party president or continue with the same.

“Mir may be re-elected as JKPCC Chief as his term remained non-controversial and he had also worked for the welfare and upliftment of the party,” sources added. They further said the All India Congress Committee (AICC) will re-organise the party at state levels across the country, adding, that it has also to appoint new national president before December 31 and by this period, revamping of state cadre throughout the country is also on cards.” “The process of strengthening party cadre at booth and block levels is on and it is expected that the members will unanimously re-elect Mr Mir as party president for second term,” said a senior leader of J&K Congress. Mr Mir was appointed as JKPCC Chief in March 2015.
