Srinagar: Life today returned to normalcy after remaining paralysed for two days in parts of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where eight security force personnel were martyred and three foreign militants were killed in an 18-hour-long encounter which ensued after a fidayeen attack on District Police Line (DPL) on August 26. There was no restriction in any part of Pulwama district though security forces remained deployed in strength to maintain law and order, official sources said.
Train service between Srinagar-to Banihal in Jammu region, via south Kashmir, however, remained unaffected this time during the strike. Shops and business establishments opened this morning and traffic was also plying on all routes normally. Work in government offices, banks and educational institutions was also normal. However, mobile internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended since August 26 morning in the district as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of any rumours.
Eight security force personnel, four each of police and CRPF, and three militants were killed and five other jawans injured in the fidayeen attack on DPL, Pulwama. Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) had claimed responsibility for the attack. UNI
