Srinagar: The Government Monday constituted an official panel to formulate a comprehensive proposal for revamping the Information Department in light of the fast-changing media scenario.
To be headed by the Administrative Secretary, Information Department, the five-member Committee shall include Director Information, Joint Director Information (Hqrs), Joint Director Information Jammu and Joint Director Information, Kashmir as Members. The Committee shall submit its report within 15 days.
The revamping of DIPR shall include streamlining and strengthening the existing systems, besides adopting latest technologies to meet the growing demands of the information dissemination. The focus of the Committee shall be on strengthening the PR, audio visual and digital media wings in the Department to ensure prompt and efficient information dissemination.
The Committee will also suggest measures for creation of dedicated specialized wings including IT section, removal of stagnation and creation of better and speedy career progression opportunities for the existing DIPR employees at various levels.
The Committee has been constituted on the initiative of Minister for Information, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali who is keen to bring up the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) as a strong communications platform with professional human resource and state-of-the-art infrastructure to face the challenges faced in view of the fast transformation taking place on the media scene.
Pertinently, the Minister has already ordered creation of a separate independent mechanism for advertisement distribution to the print media in the offices of the provincial Joint Directors of Information so that the Directorate of Information can effectively channelize its resources and energies on information dissemination.
The DIPR has, on the initiative of the Information Minister, also successfully and professionally started in-house editing and compilation of the departmental program ‘Aks-e-Parwaaz’ which is being telecast on DD Kashmir 6 days a week.
DIPR has, of late, taken various initiatives to strengthen the Department by way of infrastructure and bring in skilled manpower at various levels to give a professional touch to the information dissemination through print, electronic and new media.
