Jammu: Indian Institute of Mass communication (IIMC), Northern Regional Campus Jammu, Monday organized 2nd Prof K. M. Shrivastava memorial lecture at the institute on “Media & Environment in J&K”.
Dr. C.M Seth, IFS and Former Chairman Pollution Control Board J&K and renowned environmentalist, was the key note speaker. Other guests who attended the memorial lecture were Neha Jalali, IIS, Deputy Director (Department of Field Publicity- GoI), Col. Manish Mehta, PRO Defence, Jammu, Ashwani Kumar, President Press Club, Jammu and Bureau Chief AajTak, Sangitika Nigam , Media expert & Documentary Film Maker, from New Delhi.
While paying tributes to the late professor, Manohar Khajuria, Regional Director IIMC NRC-Jammu briefed the students and other guests about his contribution to the field of journalism and media education. He remembered Prof K.M Shrivastava as a dedicated media educator at IIMC Delhi for over 25 years. He played a key role in establishing regional campuses. He pioneered in providing training to journalists from Indian / Territorial Army, developing countries, especially from Africa and South-East Asia, besides in-service employees. He had published number of media books.
Speaking on the topic, Dr. Seth highlighted the role of media in covering environmental issues and shared his various experiences as an environmentalist. He emphasised upon the role of media in simplifying the understanding of environmental issues for the common man. He cited a number of case studies, for instance, Gharana Wetland, Hangul, Dal Lake, Markhor goat, Shahtosh, Pashmina to explain the importance of media in spreading awareness regarding conservation and preservation of environment. He described environmental journalists as the advocates for the nature and its elements who cannot speak for themselves.
While remembering the Professor, Jalali talked about his passion for journalism and going beyond classrooms in sharing knowledge on various issues in society with his students.
Sangitika, recalled her memories with Prof. Shrivastava and described him as a dedicated teacher and diligent worker. Col Manish Mehta who shared a special relationship with Prof Shrivastava, remembered him as a ‘Guru’ who dedicated his life for the growth of the institute and for his students. Ashwani Kumar also spoke about his association with Prof. Shrivasata and praised for his contribution to the field of media.
