Govt committed to improve socio-economic condition of farmers: Nizam-ud-Din Bhat

Bandipora: Vice Chairman Handlooms, Handicrafts and Member Horticulture Development Board, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat Monday said Government is committed to ameliorate the socio-economic conditions of the farming community of the State, adding various latest and innovative farmer friendly programs are being implemented at ground level.

Bhat, was the chief guest at day-long district level farmers interaction program under ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ at Potoshahi organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bandipora.

District Development Commissioner Bandipora Sajjad Hussain, Director Extension and acting Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K Prof Mushtaq Ahmad, scientists, experts, officers from concerned Departments and a large number of progressive farmers were present in the program.

Stressing for the revival of traditional farming patterns, the Vice Chairman appealed the farming community to take advantage from the latest researches of experts to obtain increased yield.

He said nature has bestowed Kashmir valley with so many natural resources and has the potential to produce high quantity of paddy and other crops. He asked youth to make better use of the latest practice and innovations in the field to generate livelihood.

On the occasion, the DDC asked the officers to conduct awareness programs across the district so that the people are made aware of various Government sponsored schemes. He said district administration Bandipora has taken an initiative to provide cows to 62 families in Banyari so that they can improve their economy. Moreover, polygreen houses have also been provided to farmers for growing vegetables.

Director Extension SKUAST in his speech said a good number of varieties of paddy including Muesk-budji and other high yielding crops have been introduced in the valley to improve production. He asked the farmers to adopt scientific methods and make use of organic fertilizers for the purpose. He appealed the concerned officers to ensure seed distribution in time to the farmers.

Later, a technical session was also held in which experts shared their expertise with the farmers and gave them technical know-how about latest scientific techniques.
