Srinagar: The creative writing workshop organized by Waruk, an organization striving to promote Creative Arts among youth, in collaboration with Department of Tourism and Settle Light Production concluded on Sundayhere in the old city of Srinagar which saw an overwhelming response from the local youth.

Around 60 participants worked together in groups for a month comprising children as well as adults. The workshop was inaugurated this month at Islamic Cultural Center Nowhatta, Jamia Masjid by Director Tourism, Mahmood A Shah.

The second and the third edition of the workshops were later organized at Peerzu Island on the banks of river Jehlum.

Speaking at the concluding function, Director Tourism said organizing creative writing workshop helped local youth get in touch with the professional writers and artists and learn from them.

He said they received a good response to the workshop with the participation of locals from diverse age-groups and districts.

“We are happy to see the participation of the youth from the districts like Pulwama, Bandipora, Islamabad, Baramulla and Srinagar which not only led people to discover each other better but also helped bridge the gap between the children and the elderly, the rural and the urban,” the Director said.

He said the Department strives to identify and promote budding and talented artists in their respective fields. He said the Department would organize more such workshops to explore the hidden talent of the youth.

The innovative workshop saw guest lecturers from Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow and, Kashmir who made participants aware of various facets of the field.

Later, the Director also distributed certificates and mementoes to the participants and encouraged them to participate in such creative workshops.

He said the department wants to make the Islamic Cultural Center at Nowhatta more vibrant with more such workshops and local participation to explore their hidden talent.

Deputy Director Tourism Riyaz Beigh was also present on the occasion.  He said the events were historic and first of its kind because there are generally no workshops that have such a diverse participation.
