New Delhi: Around Rs 65,000-crore have been deposited in banks by the poor, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. In his monthly radio programme “Mann ki Baat”, the Prime Minister today said, “Tomorrow on the 28th of August, the Pradhan Mantri Jan DhanYojana will complete three years. Thirty-crore new families have been linked to this scheme, bank accounts have been opened.” He said the savings of the poor under the scheme were in a way a source of empowerment for their future. Expressing satisfaction over large number of people making use of the scheme, Mr Modi said, “Today I feel a great sense of fulfillment, that within three years, the last man on the fringes of society has become a part of the mainstream economy of the country”.

Talking about various schemes like, Pradhan Mantri Jeewan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Mr Modi said these schemes with a small premium of one rupee or Rs 30 were giving a new sense of confidence to the poor. He said many families, in times of adversity or on demise of the head of the family, through one-rupee insurance had received Rs 2-lakh in a matter of days. “Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Start Up Yojana, Stand Up Yojana – for Dalits, Adivasis, women, educated youth, youth who want to stand on their own feet — for millions and millions through Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, they have been able to get loans from banks without any guarantee,” the PM said. The PM also shared that some banks had conducted surveys about how the common man had benefitted from Jan DhanYojana, Insurance Schemes, RuPay Card and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana and asked them to upload the inspiring stories, on MyGov.in, so that people could be inspired by how a scheme could bring about transformation in the life of a person.
