Srinagar: The lawyers community from Kashmir Valley Friday hit to roads to protest against against the attempts to abrogate Article 35A that debars non-state subjects to purchase land or get jobs in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports said that lawyers in different districts of Kashmir Valley expressed resentment over the judicial onslaught of special status of Jammu and Kashmir during BJP led Central Government.
The lawyers community in Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla and other parts held protests on the directions of Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of senior pro-freedom leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Carrying placards and banners, the lawyers in capital city Srinagar marched through lanes and by-lanes of spacious District Court located at Moominabad Batamaloo.
While talking to reporters, the lawyers appealed people of Jammu and Ladakh to join hands with the people of Kashmir to foil the attempts of abrogation of Article 35A. The lawyers said that the scrapping of this Article will have serious implications in the State while Jammu and Ladakh will badly affected as compared to Kashmir.
“Dogras in Jammu and Bodhs in Ladakh will surely face cultural crisis. We appeal people of Jammu and Ladakh to rise above politics. There are unscrupulous elements that are misleading people of Jammu and Ladakh on the issue. These elements are playing politics and befooling people,” said the protesting lawyers.
The lawyers at Baramulla and Anantnag also held protest against the attempts of right wingers to abrogate Article 35A.
Article 35A, which was added to the Constitution by a Presidential Order in 1954, accords special rights and privileges to the citizens of the Jammu and Kashmir.
It also empowers the state’s legislature to frame any law without attracting a challenge on grounds of violating the Right to Equality of people from other states or any other right under the Indian Constitution.
