Srinagar: Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq was again put under house arrest in this summer capital this evening.
The move by the authorities comes a day after Mirwaiz urged people to participate in special prayers on Friday in historic Jamia masjid in downtown Srinagar.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Mirwaiz wrote, “Put once again under house arrest just four days after I was released after two months!”
A spokesman for the HC said paramilitary forces and state police personnel have been deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz, who was informed that he has been put under house arrest.
Mirwaiz was released on August 18 after being placed under house arrest for about two months.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest since April last year as large number of security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside his Hyderpora house in the uptown. However, Geelani was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on August 13 for a week after he complained of abdominal cramps, dehydration and generalised weakness.
Geelani’s both sons and son-in-law besides his spokesperson are still in custody after their arrest by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with funding in Kashmir from Pakistan and Pakistan- Administered-Kashmir (PaK).
