Villgam: Expressing his deep anger and anguish over the killing of Shahid Ahmad Mir in Hafthrada area of Handwara AIP Supremo and MLA Langate Er. Rasheed has reiterated that security forces have been given liberty to create fear and panic among Kashmiris and civil administration is absolutely helpless and sub-servant to men in Uniform. Immediately after the incident took place Er Rasheed rushed to the area late in the evening but was detained near Doolipora at the outskirts of Tarathpora, where people were protesting against the killing.
Hundreds tried to march towards Doolipora but police shifted Er. Rasheed along with two dozen protestors to police station Villgam. Police didn’t allow Er. Rasheed to visit the site throughout the night.
However a team of respectable citizens from the protestors visited police station Villgam and the negotiations started with the administration and the civilians.
Er. Rasheed on behalf of the negotiators made it clear that Army or any other security agency cannot be given a license to kill Kashmiris without their fault or just for being mistaken as militants. During three hour long negotiations police and civil administration agreed that Shahid was absolutely innocent and the incident amounts to murder. After threadbare negotiations amid heated debate it was agreed to bury the body in the morning on the condition that an FIR committing to murder would be registered against Army, family will be given ex-gratia and other benefits under law and Govt. will also pay an amount of Rs. 8.00 Lacs to the family immediately.
However in the morning Er. Rasheed was deported back towards Handwara without being allowed to participate in funeral of the deceased. However in the morning some unknown hands within the administration created confusion about the nature of the FIR and it resulted in huge protests. Er. Rasheed accused Govt. of being insincere and creating confusion and chaos just to mislead the people and protect the killers of Shahid.
Er. Rasheed has asked Govt. to fulfill its commitment made with the people of the area and also sought stern action against the said Army Officer who snatched one more precious human life.(GNS)
