Sofi Gh Mohi-u-din passes away; CM. Ministers, Ors condole death

Srinagar: PDP Coordinator and former forest minister Sofi Mohi-u-Din Tuesday morning passed away at SKIMS Soura. He was suffering from multiple ailments for the last several months. He was treated in several hospitals in Delhi and admitted recently to SKIMS Soura where he passed away Tuesday morning. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, several ministers and top leaders of both ruling and opposition parties have condoled the death of Sofi Gh Mohi Ud Din .
Sofi Mohi-u-Din was one of the founding members of Peoples Conference. He fought 2002 assembly elections as an independent candidate and was inducted in PDP-Congress coalition ministry headed by Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the year 2002. He held forest port folio for three years.
Few years back he had joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was the party’s chief coordinator in Kupwara District.
His death has been widely condoled by all political, social and cultural organizations of the State.
Condoling the death Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti recalled his contribution as a Minister from 2002 to 2005 during which he worked a lot for the development and welfare of the people, particularly of Handwara area. “Afterwards as a leader of the Party, he worked tirelessly for strengthening PDP at the grass root level in Handwara and Kupwara”, she said in her condolence message.Mehbooba Mufti has conveyed her heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late leader and prayed for eternal solace to his soul.
Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri has also condoled the demise of Former Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Sofi Ghulam Mohiuddin.
Veeri termed his death as a personal loss and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.He hailed the contribution of Sofi in development of J&K.The Revenue Minister prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to his family in bearing the loss.
In his condolence message, Minister for Information and Consumer Affairs Zulfkar Ali expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
He termed the former Minister’s demise as a great loss to the State and remembered his contribution for the upliftment of the downtrodden and weaker sections of the society.Pertinently, Sofi Ghulam Mohiuddin served the State as Forest Minister in the Government of late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in 2002.
Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq has also condoled the demise of Former Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Sofi Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din.
Expressing condolence with the bereaved family, Minister prayed for the departed soul. While hailing his contribution as a minister and a trade union leader, Abdul Haq said the deceased worked all through his life for the betterment of society in general and for the people of Kupwara district in particular.
He said the demise of late Sofi has created vacuum that will be very difficult to fill in the near future.
Condoling the death senior National Conference leader and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf said that it is surprising and unfortunate that the PDP-BJP government is forcing over two hundred nomad families living there for past twenty years to go homeless by forcibly asking them to vacate the land without any prior information, rehabilitation plan and proper consultation.
“if there is so much land available to the government at the area, the government should have taken it under consideration and have selected some adjacent area so that the residential areas are not affected” the statement said.
“Nobody is against the establishment of the AIIMS but it should not be at the cost of poor people who have no means to settle anywhere else or to live” Mian Altaf added.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice President Mohammad Sartaj Madni has expressed grief over the demise of Party’s senior leader and former forest minister Sofi Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Handwara who breathed his last at his residence after a prolonged illness.
In a condolence massage, Madni expressed Sofi as a dedicated socio- political figure who have done a lot for needy and deserving people in the state and hilly district in particular. He said Sofi was an inspiring personality who with socio-political services and public good has inspired many and will be remembered for long. While praying for his everlasting peace he also expressed sympathetic with bereaved family.
Terming Sofi a seasoned politician, party general secretary Nizmaudin Bhat said that absence of his engagement in conduct and pursuit of political instructions would be felt by society at large, during his active politics, Sofi remained committed for the up-liftment of downtrodden section of the society and always stood by the side of needy.
