Rajnath’s Kashmir dreams

BJP the ally of PDP having shattered all the dreams of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on special status is now talking about handling Kashmir situation seriously in the absence of total blockade of diplomatic channels with Pakistan and engagement with even the mainstream political parties not to talk of separatist leaders most of whom have been caged now on the charges of illegal funding for militancy and stone pelting related activities. Instead of taking measures for removing the increasing trust deficit and increasing alienation of youth in Kashmir the Home Minister Rajnath Singh has taken measures to silence angered populations in Kashmir through widely condemnable excessive militarization methods. Last year when unrest had thrown up a massive challenge to police, paramilitaries and army in Kashmir the Home Minister Rajnath Singh often used to talk about restoration of peace without paying any heeds to the demands for replacement of pellet guns and judicial probes into the civilian killings. The Home Minister Rajnath Singh neither conceded Mehbooba Mufti’s demand for the replacement of pellet gun with less lethal weapons nor agreed to the state government’s several proposals for political engagement in Jammu & Kashmir. After laying legal traps to several legislations connected to article 370 of the Indian constitution granting special status of the state the Modi government does not bother to file an affidavit in response to a petition filed against Article 35 A in the supreme court of the country by a non-governmental organization (NGO) infamous for having links with the hard core affiliates of BJP. On one hand BJP is beating drums on its commitment to leave the contentious issues particularly the special status of the state untouched as highlighted in the “agenda of alliance” scripted by by top leaders of PDP and BJP for running the affairs of government in Jammu & Kashmir but on the other hand the BJP has been making overt and covert attempts to challenge several key legislations connected to article 370 of the Indian constitution guaranteeing special status to Jammu & Kashmir state.

Ultimately the response of the central government against three petitions filed against article 35 A in the Supreme Court of the country A by all standards of understandabilities will prove detrimental for the protection of the special status of the state but Home Minister Rajnath Singh is setting tone for abrogation of special status brick by brick to sent out a message that he is working on saffron dreams in handling situation in Kashmir.

Pushed to the wall by ally BJP the PDP Chief and the incumbent Chief Minister has finally choosen to reach out to the opposition parties extending full support over fight for protection of article 35 A and article 370.
