Kathua: District Development Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar Tuesday took a review of the functioning of Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture departments in a meeting held at DC office complex Tuesday.
DDC reviewed the physical and financial achievements of all central, state and district sector schemes being implemented in Kathua district.
Earlier in the meeting the district officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Sericulture put forth the progress of the departments under different schemes and its further scope of expansion in the identified areas.
DDC Ramesh Kumar called upon the field functionaries to sensitize people for opting for mix farming by educating farmers and youth with latest know how of farming techniques. He also impressed upon the officers to encourage farmers towards organic farming. He also opined establishing small cold storage units to increase the shelf life of agricultural produce for the benefit of farmers.
The DDC laid thrust on facilitating issuance of Kissan Credit Card to farmers and directed clearing of pendency in this regard to assist farmers in timely purchase of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other required inputs.
The scope of self help groups and cooperative societies can be imperative in marketing agriculture produce which will help the farmers, DDC added.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Project Officer Sericulture, SDAOs, HDOs and AEOs were present in the meeting.
