New Delhi: A 45-year-old former panchayat member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was found dead in mysterious circumstances near his residence in Shangus area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
A police officer on conditions of anonymity said that body of Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Rehman of Wakeelbalan, Nowgam, Shangus was found at some distance from his residence, hours after he left home to see construction of his new house in the area.
The police officer said that there is a visible axe mark on his head and police has registered a case to look into the matter.
“We are investigating the case,” he said.
Body of Shabir, a senior PDP worker and a former panchayat member, has been taken for postmortem and would be handed over to the family once the medico-legal formalities are completed, said the officer.
