DDC Shopian bans illegal extraction of minerals from streams

Shopian: District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz Saturday convened a meeting here to formulate ways to enforce ban on illegal extraction of minerals from streams in the district.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineer R&B, Tehsildar Shopian, District Minerals Officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Assistant Treasury Officer, Assistant Executive Engineer Flood Control, Assistant Executive Engineer Irrigation and concerned officials.

It was said the illegal extraction of minor minerals has been carried out from streams of Rambiar, Sasa, Vishu and Tongri without any permission from the competent authority.

The DDC constituted a six-member committee comprising Tehsildar concerned, District Mineral Officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Assistant Executive Engineer Flood Control, Assistant Executive Engineer Irrigation, and concerned Station House Officer,

He stressed upon the committee members to keep a strict surveillance on the extraction activities and not allow anyone to extract minerals without grant of the due lease. He also asked them to conduct night raids and surprise visits at the site of extraction of construction material.
