Srinagar: Stressing that welfare of students remains a top priority of his Government, Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Thursday  said his role is to defend and represent the interests of the students.

The Minister made these remarks during the Annual Day function at Minto Circle Higher Secondary School, Alochibagh where he was the Chief Guest.

On the occasion, Bukhari appealed the parents to spend time with their children to inculcate moral and ethical values in them. He said parents are the best teachers for children and their guidance is a must for overall personality development of wards.

“In our times, parents would spend a lot of time with their kids. Now the times have changed and the kids get to spend less time with their parents,” Bukhari said adding that “parental guidance is a must for the child’s development.”

Appealing the students to adopt positive approach to become successful in life, Bukhari said, “If you think positive, you will see positive and when you see positive, it will lead to the achievement of positive results in life.”

On the occasion Chairman Private Schools Association, GN Var, Chairman Minto Circle School, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Principal Minto Circle School,  Shahida, General Secretary Private Schools Association, Mohammad Yousuf Wani and others were present.

Bukhari congratulated the management of school for their contribution towards education and imparting extracurricular activities. He said Private Schools have played a great role in imparting education in cities, now they need to move towards far flung areas to cater to the educational needs there.

The Minister asked the untrained teachers to get registered for the training programs which has been made compulsory for all untrained teachers. Those who did not enroll for the training program will lose their job by March 2019, he said.

The under-graduate and graduate teachers have to register themselves on the web portal of National Institute of Open Schooling (www.nios.ac.in) where they can get the course learning free of cost. The study material will be available on the web portal. However they need to pay Rs 6,000 as exam fee which will be held in June 2018 and the final exam in March-April 2019.

Later, Bukhari distributed prizes among the students who have won medals in different games at district level, state level and national level.
