Srinagar: The six-year-old daughter and wife of slain CRPF commander Pramod Kumar Tuesday unfurled the national flag in this summer capital, where exactly a year ago he had hoisted the tricolour hours before getting killed in a militant attack.
A CRPF spokesperson said the slain commander’s daughter Aarna and wife Neha Tripathy unfurled and saluted the national flag at the 49th battalion camp in Karan Nagar in Srinagar.
He said Ms Neha distributed sweets among the jawans of the battalion, once commanded by her husband.
Later, she also placed a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial built at the camp, he added.
Kumar was Monday this week decorated by the government with the Kirti Chakra (posthumously), the third highest peacetime gallantry medal, for his dare devil action after his patrol party was attacked by militants at Nowhatta Chowk in downtown Srinagar last Independence Day.
The commander suffered a fatal bullet injury to his head during the attack and succumbed soon after.
