Severe threat caused to Article 35 A and the unabated continuation of the pro-active policy against the escalating armed uprising in Kashmir have badly hit the mission revival of the PDP President and the incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti kick started by her with her party’s anniversary rally in Srinagar and a couple of public meetings in Anantnag district. With political storm over article 35 A forcing her reach out to the main opposition National Conference (NC) and other opposition political parties Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has got engaged in a new damage control exercise to prevent the further erosion of the already eroded credibility and popularity of her party. While defending the petition against Article 35 A amid overt and covert denial by the BJP to join her legal battle to prevent abrogation of article 370 in the supreme court of the country has become a new challenger for her government the Chief Minister is finding her party cadres totally upset with the government’s failure in stopping the continuing spree in the killing of civilian in street clash in the aftermath of encounter between the militants and the government forces. Politically Mehbooba Mufti is vulnerable to attacks from both the opposition parties and as well as her own party cadres and as such it is obvious that she can’t carry forward her mission of reconnecting the PDP cadres with the people at the grass roots. Wining the legal battle against Article 35 A and stopping the killing of civilians are the two biggest challenges confronting Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti right now. The non cooperation and denial of support to Mehbooba Mufti by the Modi government at the centre both in fighting legal battle against Article 35 A in the Supreme Court of the country and combating challenges thrown up by non stoppable continuity in the killing of civilians are the factors responsible for the mistrust deepening with every passing day across Kashmir.
Unless and Until Mehbooba Mufti does not get the support from BJP the ally in fighting the legal battle against Article 35 A and other related legislations challenged in the supreme court of the country and ending the continuity in the spree of the killing of civilians, the Chief Minister can’t take steps for restoring her mission of reviving PDP at grass roots in Kashmir.
While Chief Minister may not have any regrets over the role of opposition in pricking more and more holes in the working of her government but she would be surely upset over the role the leaders of BJP the ally are playing in increasing the complexities of the issues concerning the political aspirations of the people. Though Chief Minister has started speeding up the process of recruitment both by the departments and as well as the recruiting agencies like Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) and Public Service Commission but the same is not satisfying for the youth who are more concerned about their political aspirations than their joblessness. Unless and Until Mehbooba Mufti does not get the support from BJP the ally in fighting the legal battle against Article 35 A and other related legislations challenged in the supreme court of the country and ending the continuity in the spree of the killing of civilian the Chief Minister can’t take steps for restoring her mission of reviving PDP at grass roots in Kashmir.
