Prayer leaders exhorted to raise voices against alleged brutalities of forces

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Thursday called for peaceful protests after congregational prayers tomorrow against the killing of a civilian in forces’ action in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik has strongly condemned the killing of a 16-year-old student Mohammad younus at Gulabagh, Tral due to pellet firing by the government forces.
“Forces are on a terror spree in south Kashmir areas every day. Under the garb of CASO[ cordon and search operation], youth are being brutally killed and a huge population placed under siege, people harassed, property damaged and even women and children terrorised,” said a joint statement.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) asked prayer leaders of all the mosques across Kashmir to raise voice against the “unabated atrocities” being committed by government forces in south Kashmir during Friday sermons.
JRL asked them to condemn alleged forces’ brutalities in unison to express solidarity with the people of southern districts of Kashmir.
JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik also strongly condemned the killing of a 16-year-old student Mohammad younus at Gulabagh, Tral in Puwlama due to “indiscriminate pellet firing” by forces.
The JRL alleged that forces “are on a terror spree in south Kashmir areas every day.”
“Under the garb of CASO [cordon and search operation], youth are being brutally killed and a huge population placed under siege, people harassed, property damaged and even women and children terrorized,” they said, in a statement, issued here Thursday.
The JRL said that it seems that government and its forces, police, army, CRPF have declared war against the people of south Kashmir as there is no end to atrocities inflicted on the people.
The leadership said that after Friday prayers on August 11, people will stage peaceful protest against the forces “highhandedness and new wave of terror unleashed on the people of South Kashmir.”
The JRL urged the people of Kashmir to make the strike call given for Saturday (August 12) a success stating that the call is against the assault on the J&K’s special status and continuous killings of Kashmiris at the hands of forces.
The JRL also termed the arrest and shifting of senior resistance leaders Shabir Ahmed Shah, Advocate Shahidul Islam, Ayaz Akbar and Farooq Ahmed Dar to Delhi’s Tihar Jail and keeping others that including Muhammad Altaf Shah, Mehrajudin Kalwal, and Peer Saifuallh under NIA custody, as sheer political vendetta to defame the resistance camp by framing the leaders under false and baseless charges and to demoralize the people of Kashmir.
JRL also called condemned the summoning of Naseem Geelani, Nayeem Geelani and Fahim Ali and many members of the Kashmir’s trading fraternity by the NIA.
The leadership said that the ploys adopted by the government using NIA to muzzle and build pressure on the resistance leaders of Kashmir wouldn’t deter the resolve of the pro-freedom camp committed towards the peoples’ movement of self-determination.
The leadership also paid rich tributes to Shaheed-e-Azmat Sheikh Abdul Aziz, on his 9th death anniversary stating that he sacrificed his life for a great cause and always remained committed to the freedom movement.
“The best way to pay tributes to Aziz will be that the entire nation remains steadfast towards the mission for which leaders like Shaheed-e-Azmat and thousands of other martyrs laid down their lives,” said the JRL.
A special prayer meeting will be organised at martyrs’ graveyard Eidgah in memory of Sheikh Aziz and other martyrs on Aug 11 at 10.30 AM, they said.
