Srinagar: Five militants was killed as alert troops foiled yet another major infiltration bid from Pakistan administrated Kashmir (PaK) in Machil sector in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
An Army official told UNI that troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from PaK in Machil sector in north Kashmir today.
However, when challenged and asked to surrender, the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.
Troops also retaliated and in the ensuing gun battle, five militants were killed.
He said five weapons were also recovered. “The operation was going on when the reports last came in,” he said, adding the entire forest area near the LoC has been sealed after reinforcement was rushed from nearby camps.
