Jammu: The Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Saturday conducted an extensive tour of Jammu city and Mansar to assess the working of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control department.
Under the Chairmanship of MLA Mohammad Ashraf Mir, the Committee comprised legislators Sukhnandan Choudhary, R.S Pathania, Abdul Majeed Padder, Yawar Ahmed Mir and Javed Ahmed Mirchal.
The Committee visited Water Supply Scheme, Chani Mansar and directed the officers of the department to lift water from an independent source and cover more areas adjoining Mansar under the scheme.
Chairman of the Committee, Mohammad Ashraf Mir directed them to maintain cleanliness in and around the water supply schemes and carry out plantation drives in the PHE establishments.
The Committee also visited Nikki Tawi to assess the progress of flood protection works taken up by the department for protecting the people living on the banks of river Tawi. The officers were directed to expedite the pace of works as the level of water can rise in the river any time due to ongoing incessant rains.
The Committee also convened a public grievance redressal camp at Mansar and listened to the demands of the people related to water supply, power supply, sanitation and healthcare. The people demanded better sanitation facilities at the Tourist spots for the convenience of tourists and locals.
The team of officials accompanying the committee members was headed by Chief Engineer, PHE A.K Gandotra and Chief Engineer, I&FC P.N Bali.
