Sudhanshu Pandey reviews status of GST implementation in South Kashmir

Ang: In connection with the implementation Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the district, Union Joint Secretary Industries & Commerce, Sudhanshu Pandey Friday chaired to stock of the issues being faced by the traders here.

Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah informed the meeting about the status of implementation of the path-breaking taxation regime and He informed that the district administration is doing its best to ensure the smooth implementation of the new tax regime.

It was given out that 3546 provisional IDs have been distributed and from 11th July to 31st July, 105 GST registrations have been made while as 2356 dealers have been migrated in the two Commercial Tax circles.

Traders from both the districts raised various issues like the issues of cesses charged, exemptions to local industry, toll tax, transaction and connectivity issues, stock adjustment and brand taxes.

With respect to the pending stocks, the traders were informed that in case of those stocks having available vouchers/ bills, the traders can opt for input tax credit (ITC) through Train A or B forms and for those who do not have bill proof will get an ITC of 40% on the stocks previously taxed below 18% and 60% on the items previously taxed above 18%.

The Deputy Commissioner apprised the meeting that various awareness camp were organized by Commercial Taxes Department to educate the dealers on different aspects of the new tax regime.

The CTO Anantnag said under new regime, the registration process has been simplified and a dealer has to submit details of PAN, email ID and registered mobile number for getting registration within 3 days.

The Joint Secretary patiently listened to the issues raised by various traders and assured them that he will be raising them in the next GST Council meeting.

He directed the Commercial Tax officers to adopt multi-pronged strategy for smooth implementation of the tax regime including creation of knowledge resource through intensive training programs, awareness camps on legal issues, complex taxation rate issues and service sector specific issues.

The meeting was attended by district officers of Anantnag and Kulgam districts and a good number of traders from Anantnag and Kulgam.
