Sham directs for prompt action, resolution of people’s concerns

Srinagar: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary convened a meeting to review the functioning of PHE department in Kashmir division, here Thursday.

Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Saurabh Bhagat, Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir G M Bhat and concerned senior officers were present in the meeting.

Laying stress on the need for timely resolution of people’s concerns, the Minister said this department deals with drinking water, an essential need of the people and therefore passed strict directions to the department officials to take immediate action, ensure early resolution of the concerns raised by general public.

During the meeting, the Minister sought division wise details of water supply position and status report for all ongoing departmental works in their respective areas.

He stressed on proper maintenance of machinery and quick repair of damages at the water stations to avoid sudden breakdowns, besides directing for expediting the pace of work on all ongoing works.

The Minster stressed upon concerned authorities to work in synergy and enthusiasm so that all projects are completed within stipulated time. He sought coordination and cooperation among departments so that target achieving mechanism can be initiated.

Discussing the functioning of WSS Tangnar, the Minister directed the concerned to complete the work of covering left over habitations under the scheme so that water can be provided to the people of the area.

During the meeting, the Minister was informed that few schemes are not functioning presently because of cloud burst in few areas in Kashmir division.

Taking note of that, Sham Choudhary asked the concerned officers to ensure adequate supply of potable water to the people and resolve the issues of people on ground as get noticed. He said people should be provided water though water tankers where schemes have incurred damage due to cloud burst.

Regarding issue of damage to the water pipes by R&B works, the Minister said the issue will be taken up with R&B authorities.
