Srinagar: Shabir Ahmad Shah detained by Enforcement Directorate (ED) was Thursday remanded to judicial custody on the plea of the council of the Directorate amid charges of humiliation, harassment and ill-treatment by the family of Shah.
Local news gathering agency KNS quoted Dr. Bilquees Shah, the wife of incarcerated leader Shabir Ahmad Shah as saying ‘Shah is being brought alone to the court like a criminal despite the fight that he is still an accused but not the guilty as the court is yet to complete its proceedings and announce the final judgment. Shah a well known public figure known to people all over the world is brought like a criminal to the court and as such can be attacked by fanatic Hindus anytime and this way he is facing a threat to his life’.
Mrs Shah said that while the case is pending disposal for the last twelve years but surprisingly the Enforcement Directorate is after a gap of twelve years asking questions about the bank details and Email addresses used by Shah.
Alleging that Shah is deprived of the proper food and clothing facilities Dr. Shah said that during the course of investigations Shah is subjected to worst forms of tortured and forced to put down signatures on fake and forged documents juts to implicate him in false cases.
She also expressed her surprise that while the court remanded Shah to custody on the plea of the council of the Enforcement Directorate, the pleas of the council representing Shah in the court are not taken seriously by the court.
Saying that ‘we are not above the law and are open to scrutiny’ Dr. Shah said investigation should be fair, free and transparent.
