Srinagar: The Faculty and students of the Craft Development Institute, Srinagar, led by their Director  Sajid Nazir, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here Friday.

Governor was briefed by Director about the various craft development courses which are being run by the Institute and the nature of support provided by the Institute for the students taking up careers in craft entrepreneurship.

Governor discussed the activities of the Institute, the future plans of the students and the help which they are seeking for launching their own enterprises. He appreciated the innovative products designed by the students, which were shown to him by some of the girl students, particularly the colourful Sozni bangles, wooden lamps, use of embroidery to make various articles of daily use have a beautiful look. Governor advised Director and his colleagues to organise exhibitions to publicise the products designed by Institute’s students and also devise a system for pricing each product developed by the students as this would enable an assessment of its marketability.

Governor discussed with the Faculty the various initiatives which could be taken to revive Kashmir’s Handicraft industry to regain its past international standing. He asked the girl students to design some beautiful mementoes which the Raj Bhavan could buy for gifting them to important visitors.

Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to the Governor was present on the occasion.
