Srinagar: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has stressed on preserving and promoting the handmade arts of Kashmir for which she asked the concerned agencies to take all possible steps.

The Chief Minister was interacting with a series of deputations of artisans and dealers of handicrafts, Pashmina workers, copper workers and fur workers.

The deputations were led by MLC, Khursheed Aalam.

Appreciating the local artisan community for having carried the art through centuries, Mehbooba Mufti said these art forms have given the State a unique position in the country and world and her Government would make efforts for the welfare of the artisan community.

Mainly drawn from various parts of Srinagar city, the artisans put the difficulties being faced by them before the Chief Minister. They sought restructuring of credit facilities, incentivizing the handmade crafts and other welfare measures for them so that these crafts are preserved and carried to next generation.

Responding to the demands, the Chief Minister directed the concerned Departments to explore the possibilities and come up with suggestions in a time bound manner.

Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal was also present on the occasion.
