Dorjey inaugurates Cooperative Super Bazaar at Leh

Leh: Minister for Ladakh Affairs & Cooperatives Chering Dorjey Wednesday inaugurated Leh’s first Cooperative Super Bazaar ‘Bami Duniya Consumer Cooperative Store’ and ‘Cooperative Chemist Shop’.

CEC LAHDC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa, MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora, EC Works Dorjey Mutup, EC Sheep & Animal Husbandry Mumtaz Hussain, Councilors, DC Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G, former Union Minister P Namgial, district officers, religious and social heads and members of various cooperative societies from different villages were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the vision behind having this cooperative super market is to develop and promote peasant market for farmers of the district.

While talking about the challenges in getting this super bazaar started, the Minister said the present 23 kanal land transferred to Cooperative department, Leh is intended to be used for selling and buying products like agriculture produce, tools, seeds etc. He stressed upon the Cooperative Marketing Society to take responsibility of owning and managing the land to ensure maximum direct benefit to farmers.

The Minister instructed DRC Leh to make consumer durables, winter clothes and other commodities available in the super bazaar in time, and to work on further improving the management and look of the bazaar.

Dorjey said the government is working to revive and improve cooperative movement, for which, elections are being held in the state. Elections have already been held in Jammu while the elections for Kashmir will be held soon, he added.

He praised Cooperative Department Leh for being one of the most active and efficient departments in the state and credited its success to the endeavors of Dy. Registrar Cooperative, Sonam Nurboo.

CEC LAHDC Dr Sonam Dawa expressed gratitude to the Minister on behalf of people of Leh district for the super market, and the cold storage, work for which is under progress. He  Council is providing support to vegetable sellers from far off villages by providing them space in the cooperative shops to sell their products.

MLA Leh  Jora also congratulated the Minister, DRC and all cooperative societies of the district for this new super market. He praised the efforts of district officers for their hard work and commitment towards welfare of local people. A traditional cultural program was also presented on the occasion.
