Jammu: Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta Monday stressed on the need for effective conservation of water bodies which act as perennial source in sub urban and rural areas.
The Speaker was speaking at a meeting to review the condition of water bodies and parks in Gandhi Nagar Constituency.
“Preservation of the vital water bodies is imperative as these act as indispensable source of drinking water. Their conservation should be made part of water management practices,” the Speaker directed.
Highlighting the significance traditional water sources, the Speaker said over centuries these have helped in sustaining life, economic development and maintaining ecological balance.
The Speaker directed the senior functionaries to personally monitor the conservation works and renovation and upgradation of parks in the area.
He further directed the concerned officers to identify the areas where water bodies can be developed and to submit a comprehensive report to his office.
The Speaker asked the officers to take corrective measures to resolve the issues pertaining to water supply in the constituency.
Terming encroachment and illegal constructions alongside water bodies as a big menace, the Speaker directed for strict action against the violators.
The Speaker also urged the locals to properly dispose off their garbage and actively participate in maintaining cleanliness around water resources.
Later, the Speaker inaugurated upgraded lane at Sandh Mohalla, Ward no.51, Channi Himmat completed under stage works. He informed the locals that various developmental activities have been initiated in every ward of Gandhi Nagar constituency.
