Srinagar: Praising senior Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelni for raising voice against Amarnath attack that left eight pilgrims dead, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Muzaffar Hussain Baig on Saturday said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) must take action against those who are involved in receiving funds to disturb peace in Kashmir.
Addressing party workers at 18th Foundation Day celebration of PDP at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium, Baig said, “I was shocked when I heard the separatist leaders on TV saying that they have received funds to disturb peace here and to burn schools.”
He said that action must be taken against those persons who are really involved in receiving funds to disturb peace here and were involved in torching the educational institutes. “I believe the Narendra Modi led government in the state would take action only against those who are involved in it while those separatist leaders who are innocent and have no hand in burning schools and getting innocents killed should not be persecuted,” he said.
Baig further added that the last year’s unrest in the Valley has resulted in the loss to the people and also halted the developmental works here. “Central government has sanctioned Rs 19000 crore for state but the amount hasn’t been utilized due to some issues,” he said.
“People of South Kashmir who are the backbone of this party (PDP) have suffered tremendous loss from past more than one year. Some among our workers were killed while some were abused but I assure our workers that peace will return to South Kashmir very soon,” he said, adding that the Kashmir is witnessing changes on the ground.
He also said that people are observing that PDP-BJP regime in Jammu and Kashmir saved the lives of Muslims in other parts of the country after the Amarnath attack took place in Anantnag district. “The state government handled the situation very calmly and save the lives of Muslims in other states,” he said.
Baig further praised Syed Ali Geelani for speaking against the Amarnath attack in Anantnag and said, “The statement issued by the leader that the killing of yatris was un-Islamic is appreciable as the attack could have resulted into the killing of Muslims in other states of the country,” he said.
“I know Geelani Sahab from my college days. He is not greedy at all and doesn’t support terrorism. Geelani Sahab was always saying that terrorism shouldn’t erupt in Kashmir,” Baig said, adding that “he (Geelani) must be thinking that terrorism is not solution of Kashmir.”
Saying that due to the negligence of central government and our leaders in the year 1947, China has today occupied a part of Kashmir, Baig said, “China has committed various atrocities on Muslims so far and Geelani Sahab must think over it and should utter something over it,” he said.
Baig said that he left his profession only to see changes in Kashmir. “My dream is to see changes on the ground in Kashmir for which I left my profession. I was getting Rs 50,000 as fees for one case but I left that profession only to make my dream true,” he said. (KNS)
