Srinagar: Hundreds of youth, including girls, took part in the State Level Kashmir Marathon ‘Run for Peace’ organised by the Jammu and Kashmir police along the banks of world famous Dal Lake here this morning.
With peace as the theme of the marathon, Srinagarites and youth from other parts of the state laced up their running shoes and participated in the event, which was divided into six categories.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid said, “We were organising run for fun during the past few years but this time we choose the theme ‘Run for Peace’ and also make youths aware about the ill effects of drugs.
” The overwhelming response from the citizens in all age group was very encouraging, he said, adding people wanted peace, prosperity and development.
The run started from Police Golf Course to Nigeen Bridge and back for full Marathon (Men).
For half Marathon, men and women, the run started from Police Golf Course to Duck Park and back.
For boys, under 14 age group, the 8 km run started from Police Golf Course to Ghat number 25 of Del Lake and back.
Similarly, for girls under 14 age group, the 6 km run started from Police Golf Course to IG CRPF Office Chowk and back.
A 4-km run for men and women started Police Golf Course to Botanical Garden crossing and back.
