Srinagar: Police in Jammu and Kashmir have arrested a man for allegedly raping a mentally-challenged girl in summer capital Srinagar.
The accused, identified as Yasir, was arrested from the outskirts of Srinagar, said a police official.
He said the accused admitted that he raped the girl in his apartment after picking her up from Shalimar area of the city.
The official said that a Special Investigation Team was formed under the supervision of SDPO Nehru Park Owais Rashid after the family of the girl lodged a complaint with Harwan police station.
“In the complaint, the girl’s brother alleged that he did not know exactly what had happened with her, but the things she said pointed out that she was sexually assaulted,” said the official.
“On this information, medical examination of the girl was carried out and report of which confirmed rape. Subsequently, a case under section 366 and 376 Ranbir Penal Code was registered in police station Harwan.”
“After its hard efforts and through the technical inputs, the investigating team managed to zero in on the accused and arrested him in the outskirts of the city. He was identified as Yasir, a land broker, in his early 40s.”
