Srinagar: Police on Tuesday evening arrested the chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah from his residence and took him to Humhama guest house.
A party spokesperson said police party from Police Station Saddar headed by DySP came to Shah’s Sanat Nagar residence where he is under house arrest and told him to accompany them for anhour.
“Later on we came to known that he has been detained and on Wednesday he was flown to New Delhi by a team of Enforcement Directorate,” he said.
The spokesperson added that Shah was presented before an ED Court in New Delhi and currently he is in the custody of Enforcement Directorate. “Such tactics can’t break his resolve. These are pressure tactics to break his courage, but history is testimony to this fact that Shabir Ahmed Shah has always stood tall and has emerged strong after facing every tempest,” the spokesperson said.
Police sources said ED officials “executed a non-bailable warrant issued against Shah by a Delhi court”. The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has sent him to 7 days Enforcement Directorate custody, reports said.
“The arrest followed disclosures by hawala dealer Muhammad Aslam Wani, who has admitted having passed on hawala money worth Rs 2.25 crore to Shah,” sources said.
