Govt to develop state-of-art sports facilities in Kashmir: Div Com(K)

Amid dry, hot and humid weather, hundreds of people including men, women and children mostly bare foot visited the revered suffi Saint Shrine Sheikh Noor-Ud-Wali popularly known as Nund Resh at Charar-e- Sharief in Budgam district on Sunday for prayers to seek rainfall to end the drought season in Kashmir valley. Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan who is also the head of Divisional Sports Committee, Thursday convened a meeting to review the implementation of Special Package for development of Sports Infrastructure in the valley under PMDP.

Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Director Youth Services & Sports, MD JKPCC, Officers from JK Sports Council, Deputy Director Planning, Representative of National Project Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) and other concerned officers were present in the meeting while as Deputy Commissioners of Bandipora, Shopian and Kupwara participated in the meeting through video conference.

The meeting was informed that Bakshi stadium will be developed according to the FIFA norms and the estimated cost of the project is Rs 48 crores to be completed in 12 working months. Flood lights, six entries, modern pavilion, food court and other state-of-art technology will be provided to the stadium.

It was further informed that the Indoor stadium will be constructed in every district of the valley with state of art infrastructure which will boost the sports activities in the valley. The execution of this prestigious project is already started.

Deputy Commissioner of Shopian informed that for this purpose approximately 6 kanals are earmarked in his district and Deputy Commissioner Bandipora said 10 kanals of land are earmarked in Bandipora for Indoor stadium.

Div Com directed JKPCC authorities to start the work in Shopian and Bandipora districts on these projects soon so that the youth of these districts are benefitted.

Khan directed Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar and Kupwara to identify the land in their respective districts within a week for the purpose so that the work is started soon.

Divisional Commissioner directed Additional Commissioner Kashmir to take monthly review of the project so that every district in the valley gets Indoor Stadium soon.

As per the huge demand from public in Kupwara District, Div Com directed Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to submit a complete DPR under “Khelo India” Scheme within a week so that the execution of the project started immediately.
