DDC Pulwama visits Cocoon Auction Market

Pulwama: The District Development Commissioner, Pulwama visited Cocoon Auction Market at Sericulture Complex Nikas Pulwama.
A large number of farmers involved in cocoon rearing and sericulture related activities were also present on the occasion, who interacted with the people from outside the State interested in the cocoon marketing.
Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner said Silk production has been one of the priority sectors of Silk Industry and its production is yet to meet the targets, so efforts should be made for promoting, popularizing and dissemination of latest Sericulture technologies through training and extension service support.
He also said by extending market and transport facilities at the doorsteps of the farmers of the district, the cocoon production shall increase many fold. He also urged to avoid middleman during selling process and expected that cocoon growers of the district shall fetch better dividends for their products in the open market.
During the cocoon auction market, a number of cocoon growers got good return for their produce. Among the best quality cocoon producers, Muzaffar Ahmad Lone R/o Ladoo got Rs 63756, Bashir Ahmad Lone R/O got 57460, Mehbooba W/O Farooq Ahmad Sofi R/O Ladoo got Rs 46700.
Among others, the Deputy Director, Sericulture, Pulwama, and other concerned officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
