Basharat for empowering labour class, recognizing their contribution

Baramulla: Minister for Horticulture, Syed Basharat Bukhari Thursday said society needs to recognize and value hard work put in by the labour class and added that the Government is committed to their socioeconomic uplift.
The Minister said the present Government led by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti is very keen on empowering the labour class and various welfare measures are afoot in this regard.
The Minister was speaking at a daylong awareness camp, organized by Labour Department at Baramulla which witnessed a large gathering of building and other construction workers, contractors and other working classes of the society.
Bukhari said the Government would do everything possible to address the needs of the down trodden and labor class, adding that they are essential components of the society.
He said various initiatives and schemes are being formulated by the government so that this very important section of the society is empowered at the grassroots level.
While highlighting the significance of the awareness program, the Minister said the main aim of the workshop is to educate the working section about their rights and their protection for which the government is committed.
Reiterating the Government’s agenda of reaching out to every section of society, the Minister said the labor class is vital for the socio economic development of the society.
On the occasion, the Minister distributed cheques worth Rs 6.69 crore among 6431 beneficiaries which includes Rs 4.76 crore as educational assistance, Rs 1.45 crore as marriage assistance, Rs 55000 as chronic disease assistance and Rs 42000 as death and funeral cases among building and other construction workers.
District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash said the labourers are the prime constituent of the society for which this program is meant for. He also assured that the district administration will take every possible step for their welfare.
On the occasion, the Assistant Labour Commissioner Baramulla Ashiq Hussain informed that from 2011 to 2017, as many as 36,507 beneficiaries have been covered among which Rs 27,58,66,55 has been disbursed. He said the amount has been disbursed under various categories including educational and marriage assistance, medical assistance, chronic disease assistance etc.
Among others District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr.Nassir Ahmad Naqash, Joint Director Planning A G Malik, Tehsildar Baramulla Maeen Kakroo, Assistant Labour Commissioner Ashiq Hussain besides huge gathering of Labourers and construction workers were present on the occasion.
