Srinagar:  The Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Tuesday said the Government is committed to promote all the regional languages, particularly Kashmiri and Dogri languages in the State.

The Minister said this while addressing the officers during a meeting he chaired to oversee various courses offered at different universities of state to promote regional languages. Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi was also present on the occasion.

Dispelling the impression that Dogri language is being withdrawn from the State Universities, the Minister said being the regional language the government is committed to promote the Dogri.    He said both Kashmiri and Dogri languages hold equal importance and no posts have been converted from Dogri to Kashmiri.

During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed the strength of faculties and the need for additional faculty for the language courses.

The meeting was also attended by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon and officers from different Universities of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the occasion, Bukhari sought details of faculty strength for the language courses being taught in various universities across the J&K. He directed the Principals of the various Colleges that they should make efforts to promote the regional languages in their respective colleges.

The meeting also discussed various issues regarding the better functioning of educational institutions for further improving the academic scenario in the State.
