Srinagar: Four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who were ferrying arms and ammunition from north to south Kashmir, were arrested by police in this summer capital, a top police officer said.
“We were receiving information that from the last one week that some OGWs were ferrying weapons from north Kashmir to south Kashmir through Srinagar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muneer Ahmad Khan told reports during a press conference here Monday.
He said the police developed the information following which the vehicle used to ferry weapons was identified.
“About four days back, we succeeded in intercepting the vehicle at Tangpora bypass in the outskirts of Srinagar. But, the people present in the vehicle managed to flee the spot. We seized the vehicle and during checking, recovered one magazine,” he said.
Mr Khan said the some persons present in the vehicle were identified and next day a hunt was launched in the area. “As many as four OGWs were arrested alongwith an AK 47 rifle,” he said.
He said that further investigation has been taken up to nab other people involved in providing logistic support to militants to carry attacks in Kashmir.
