Jammu: Speaker Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma Saturday laid foundation stone for new public toilet cum bathing facility here near taxi stand, Railway Station.
Senior Railways officers, social activists and members of Taxi union were also present at the foundation laying function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said new toilet facility will improve the sanitary condition of the area. He urged upon the Public transporter operators, traders and local people to help in maintaining cleanliness in and around the Railway Station.
“Poor sanitation causes diseases and the provision of adequate toilet facility in the crowded places like Bus stands Railway stations is necessary for maintaining hygienic surroundings” the speaker asserted.
On the occasion, the Speaker applauded the officers of Railways for their efforts due to which Jammu railway station has been ranked 3rd in the country in cleanliness.
The Speaker said new toilet facility will cater to the tourists, taxi operators and other passengers, who reach Jammu daily from different parts of the country.
Member Parliament Jugal Kishore informed that a renovation project has already been approved for Jammu railway station to improve and upgrade the facilities for the passengers.
The MP also appreciated the initiative taken by the Taxi union along with railway officers to create better sanitation facility for the people.
