Shopian: Government Forces lobbed tear-smoke shells to disperse protesters demanding registration of a formal case against an Army driver who crushed a 7 year old girl student to death in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Reports and eyewitnesses said that a speedy army vehicle hit a second standard girl student in Aglar village of the town this morning.
The girl student who was identified as Arooba was shifted to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
The incident sparked massive protests against Indian Army while locals alleged that it has become a routine for army to drive at break neck on town roads.
Reports said that massive protests erupted after the news of Arooba’s death spread in the town. To disperse the protesters who were demanding arrest and registration of FIR against the Army driver, Government Forces lobbed tear-smoke shells.
Reports added that over a dozen protesters were wounded in the clashes. Protesters chanted pro-freedom slogans.
A Police official said that an FIR has been registered against the Army driver while the vehicle has been seized.
