Agri Minister reviews progress of MGNREGA, IAY schemes in Chrar-e-Sharif

Srinagar: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura Thursday convened a meeting to review the progress of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) and various other schemes undertaken by Rural Development Department in Chari-Sharif Constituency.

The meeting was attended by Director Rural Development Kashmir, ACD Budgam, DPO Budgam, Executive Engineer REW Budgam, and Block Development Officers of Chrar-e-Sharief, Chadoora, Surasyar, Nagam and Pakherpora.

During the course of the meeting, it was given out that a total of 451 works are being executed under MGNREGA at an estimated cost of 5.90 crores in Chari-Sharif constituency and most of the works are nearer to completion.

The Minister was also informed that under Indira Awas Yojina, more than 100 families living under Below Poverty Line are being provided financial assistance to construct houses in the Constituency.

The Minister directed the concerned officers to ensure that all the ongoing developmental projects are executed efficiently and in a time-bound manner so that their benefits reach to the common masses.

He also instructed the officers to ensure proper monitoring and execution of various schemes including IAY, MGNREGA, SGSY, IWDP at block levels. He stressed that tangible results should be visible on the ground.

For maintaining transparency and providing information to the people about welfare schemes being executed by the Government in rural areas, the Minister emphasized for the creation of Monitoring Information System (MIS) for tracking the progress of various development schemes.

The Minister asked the officers to ensure transparency in the Department and keep public informed about the decisions taken at village level. He said every citizen should be aware of the activities of the Government and it is duty of the field staff to make people  part of the decision making by ensuring their presence in the Gram Sabhas.

The Minister directed the concerned to construct a foot bridge at Badipora at an estimated cost of Rs 12.65 lakh.

Later, the Minster congratulated the Vice-Chancellor of SKAUST-Jammu and his team for attaining 15th rank for the year 2016-2017 in the Indian Council of Agriculture Research Rankings.
