Jammu: Speaker  Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta Saturday said government is committed to uplift the weaker section of society and various schemes have been launched by the centre and state governments in this regard.

The Speaker said this in a function organized to distribute Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections among female beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) here Saturday at Gangyal.

The Speaker said the government has already distributed 2500 connections in Gandhi Nagar. He said the launch of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a major initiative taken to improve the living standards of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families by empowering their female folk.

The Speaker said use of LPG in households will help to protect the health of women and their families from ill effects of the traditional cooking methods. He issued instructions to concerned authorities to ensure that the benefit of the scheme reaches deserving people at the grass root level.

Gupta said the number of deaths caused by using unclean fuel would also be reduced to a greater extent. It would also prevent young children from acute respiratory illnesses caused due to indoor air pollution by burning the fossil fuel, he added.

Kavinder Gupta also assured that people who could not get enlisted in the present list would soon be covered. He said the Government is committed to ensure LPG connection reaches every single household.

Kavinder Gupta also listed out various social welfare schemes launched by Centre and State governments, and urged the people to avail benefits from these schemes He stressed upon the people to help disseminate information about these welfare programs among others so that no household remains devoid of their benefits.
