Islamabad: Pakistan army today announced that no final decision has been taken on the mercy petition of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is held in Pakistan on the charge of espionage. “No decision has yet been taken on Kulbhushan Jadhav’s mercy plea.
The Army Chief is reviewing the case,” a tweet from Pakistan Defence – an analysis group said today. Sources said Pakistan Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is still “analysing” the evidence against Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by a military court.
“Gen Bajwa will take a final decision on the appeal of Kulbhushan Jadhav at the earliest. The decision of the chief will be based on merit,” Major Gen Asif Ghafoor, Director General Inter Services Public Relations(ISPR), has been quoted as saying in Rawalpindi. According to ISPR sources earlier, former naval official Jadhav had filed a mercy petition before Gen Bajwa last month after Pakistan’s Military Appellate Court rejected his appeal.
The capital punishment served to Jadhav was, however, stayed by the International Court of Justice at The Hague after India had moved the court.
