Srinagar: Train service has been resumed in the Kashmir valley after remaining suspended yesterday, when separatists had called for a general strike on 86th death anniversary of 22 martyrs of 1931, killed during Dogra rule outside the Cental Jail, Srinagar.
We have resumed all rail runs in the valley this morning, a railway official told .
He said all trains on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north are running as per schedule .
Similarly all trains are running on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu, he said.
He said decision to suspend the train service, which has become most popular mode of transport in the valley, yesterday was taken after receiving directions from police authorities.
In the past railway property worth crores of rupees suffered damage during demonstrations in the valley.
Last year the train service remained suspended for about six months due to unrest.
