Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has warned the state administration of dire consequences if any untoward happens with the health of ailing chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Syeda Aasiya Andrabi who is languishing in Amphala Jail, Jammu.
In a statement issued to KNS, DFP secretary general Moulana Abdullah Tari while expressing concern over the deteriorating health of Aasiya Andrabi said she is suffering from various ailments including asthma and if she is deprived of medical care, her health will further deteriorate.
Demanding release of Aasiya Andrabi, Moulana expressed wonder over the mindset of rulers who are scared of women. He hailed Aasiya Andrabi for her resilience and steadfastness on the path of freedom movement.
He also condemned the continuous arrest of pro-freedom leaders and activists including Masarat Alam Bhat, Fehmeeda Sofi, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Muhammad Rafiq Ganaie, Abdul Ahad Parra, Peer Inayatullah, Aashiq Hussain, Muhammad Amin, Tanveer Ahmad, and Sarjan Barkati.
Expressing concern over the plight of prisoners in jails and police station across state, the DFP secretary general said they are kept behind bars for years and denied of every basic facility.
He condemned the continuous detention of the ailing Hurriyat and People’s League leader Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori and slapping of PSA against him. “Despite his old age and deteriorating health, he is being lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail and not provided any medical facilities,” he said.
Tari said political prisoners are subjected to inhuman treatment and the world human rights bodies including ICRC should take cognisance of such issues and take steps towards securing the release of the political prisoners of J&K.
On the detention of Masarat Alam, Moulana said the pro-freedom leader is subjected to political vengeance. He said the champions of the so-called “battle of ideas” are hell bent on putting behind bars that every person having a different political view.
“Dr Muhammad Qasim, Ghulam Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, and scores of other incarcerated leaders have completed life terms and are not released yet. Many have crossed 22 years in Jaipur and Delhi jails and their parents are not allowed to meet them.”
Moulana said there are dozens of Kashmiris languishing in various jails of India who had been either studying or doing business in Indian states. “There are scores of Kashmiris in jails of Rajasthan, Jaipur, and Tihar who have been implicated in false cases and impediments are being created in their legal processes to prolong their incarceration,” he said.
Tari said contrary to the norm in civilised nations, the power-hungry people and those beating the drums of so-called ‘battle of ideas’ have decided to keep prisoners behind bars.
Demanding release of all prisoners, Moulana expressed hope that human rights bodies will use their good offices to secure the release of these prisoners.
Meanwhile, Moulana Tari paid tributes to Shaheed Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, Shaheed Aaqib Gul (Radbugh, Budgam), and said we’re indebted to the sacrifices of our youth who sacrifice their lives for the great cause and are committed to take their mission to its logical end.
Moulana expressed strong resentment over the arrest of six persons from a single family in Botengoo, Islamabad and said there is no justification of harassing this family after the attack on yatris.
“To unleash terror upon people after attack on Yatris is frustration on part of administration and forces,” he said. (KNS)
