Karachi: Representatives of religious and political organizations at Unity of Ummah conference here on Sunday pledged to carry out a joint fight to tackle terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence, according to a press release.
The Pakistan Ulema Council organized the conference held at Jamia Anwar Ul-Aloom. The statements said enemies of Pakistan were creating political and religious chaos with the sole objective of destabilizing the country. It said participants at the conference urged political and religious leaders in the country to demonstrate patience and wait for the Supreme Court of Pakistan to announce its verdict in the Panama Papers leaks case, Daily Times reported.
PUC chairman Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi was quoted in the statement as saying that Parachinar terrorist attack had been planned to fan sectarian violence in the country.
However, he said, the attempt was foiled by religious organizations under the able leadership of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa. He further said that unity of religious and political forces was the need of the hour. “Indian leadership is making an alliance with Israelis to void freedom struggle of Kashmiris and Palestinians. The day is not far when the people of Kashmir and Palestine will get freedom from atrocities of India and Israel,” he said.
Ashrafi said a countrywide campaign had been launched for the annihilation of terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence on the PUC’s appeal. “A national drive is being carried out for the promotion of Interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence,” he said. “We will not let any conspiracy to create political and religious chaos in Pakistan succeed,” Ashrafi vowed.
The statement further said that enemies of Islam and Muslims were also active in creating differences among different countries. Those responsible for planning terrorist activities were followers of the Takfiri mindset,” it added.
