Srinagar/July,10: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who they said was a close aide of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Bashir Lashkari.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Muneer Khan told journalists during a news conference that they have busted a module of Lashkar-e-Toiba by arresting Sandeep Kumar, alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar area of Uttar Pradesh.
“Two individuals Sandeep Kumar Sharma alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, and Muneeb Shah, a resident of Kulgam in south Kashmir were arrested,” said the IGP.
“He was involved in militant attack on policemen in Achabal that left six cops, including an SHO dead,” said Khan, adding that he was also involved in bank loot cases.
Khan said that Kumar was detained for questioning after he was rescued from a house where Bashir Lashkari was killed in a gunfight with forces in Brenti-Batpora village in Dialgam area of Anantnag district.
