Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday called Burhan Wani as the “start of a new chapter in Kashmir’s struggle for freedom”.
Sharif said that India cannot subdue the call for freedom by using force in Kashmir valley, reported Geo News.
He said the struggle for freedom in Kashmir is “indigenous and not supported by any outside power.”
Sharif’s remarks came on the first death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani.
“Burhan Wani is the start of a new chapter in Kashmir’s struggle for freedom,” said the prime minister.
Wani’s killing in an encounter with forces in Kokernag area on July 8 last year has triggered an uprising that continued for 53 days.
Nearly hundred civilians were killed, hundreds blinded and thousands injured in forces’ action on protesters during the uprising.
