YS&S To Host Football National Tournament

Srinagar:  In order to take a detailed review of the sports activities taking place in all the districts of Kashmir Division, Director Youth Services & Sports Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad chaired an important meeting of all the District officers and other senior officials of Youth Services & Sports Department at Youth Hostel here.

The Director was apprised that the Annual Calendar of Activities 2017-18 of YS&S is being followed in letter and spirit by field staff of the Department. Meeting was told that the participation of School Children in sports activities is improving day by day and about 1 Lac 25Thousand Children from all the 10 districts of Kashmir and 2 Districts of Ladakh have so far participated in different games and sports activities during the first Quarter of the Year.

Shiekh Fayaz was also apprised about the progress of various projects which have been taken in hand by the Department. Meeting was also informed that the participation of Student Players in different tournaments is being closely monitored and guided by the District Officers of the Department and efforts are on to encourage sports talent in school children.

After giving a patient ear to the concerns and demands of various District officers and other filed staff of all the 12 Districts of Kashmir division, Director Youth Services & Sports Department expressed his satisfaction over the encouraging trend of student participation in games and sports. Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad hoped that the achievement of some feat, in the field of sports by young students will act as a source of encouragement and inspiration to their counterparts.  He stated that the current dispensation under the able leadership of Mehbooba Mufti is showing keen interest in developing a world class sports infrastructure for the sports lovers of the state. Sheikh Fayaz while lauding the role of young and dynamic Minister Imran Raza Ansari’s in expanding the sports map of the state, said that our youngsters especially those people who have interest in this field are very lucky to have a dynamic Sports Minster who is very passionate about developing a better sports culture in the state.

Shiekh Fayaz told the meeting that the development of 10 Synthetic Turfs in ten different schools of Srinagar district is a clear example of Government’s seriousness about developing high class sports facilities for youth and the school children in particular. He announced that 4 additional such modern turfs are being developed in the current financial year.

Shiekh Fayaz also stated that distribution of Scholarships among the meritorious student players, sports gears for all Government schools of the state and other such facilities and incentives will be made a regular affair so that our young players feel delighted while entering the field of their interest.

While thanking his subordinate staff for the successful conduct of National Championships organized during last year, Sheikh Fayaz wished that this year too the scheduled National Championships in Football and Wushu will be organized with zeal and discipline. While providing details about the two National Events, he said that the National Championship in Football will be organized during Sept-Oct in Kashmir this year while Wushu National will be organized at Jammu during Dec-Jan.

While giving further details about the forthcoming National Events, Joint Director (Kashmir) of Youth Services & Sports Department stated that the Football Tournament will be conducted for U/17 Boys while as the Wushu Championship will be conducted for both Boys & Girls of two different age groups.  JD Kashmir Bashir Ahmed also apprised the Director that the Department is committed to ensure the participation of school children in games and he is personally looking after the same with utmost seriousness.

He hoped that the previous year’s record of achieving 118 Medals in National Level Sports events will be broken this year with a good margin as our budding student players are very enthusiastic and the Department is trying it’s best to provide them everything that can further polish their skills.

Besides all the District Officers of Kashmir Division, Deputy Director (Central) Haji Mirza Hussain, Deputy Director Plan ML Sharma, Principal Physical Education College Ganderbal Hartej Singh, Assistant Director Shabir Ahmed Wani, Accounts Officer Abdul Qayoom, Section Officer Aijaz Ahmed Haji. Publicty Officer Azhar Hajini and other senior functionaries of Youth Services & Sports Department were present in the review meeting
